The soccer often gets regarded as one of the most physical demand and challenging sports along with rugby. Like every physical or body touching sport the injuries are part and parcel of it, and in this blog, we will be talking about some of the five common injuries that we can associate with soccer.

1) Ligament injuries of the knee: the ligaments are the most prime victims when it comes to playing soccer, and one does not have to be a professional player to become a victim of ligament injury. The two most frequently injured ligaments are anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL). The twisting of the knee is the most commonly attributed reason for such injury.

2) Shin Splints: This is another injury widely found in people involved with impact sports such as basketballers, soccer players or runners. It generally caused due to excess and continuous stress on the tibia or the shin bone. The chances of such may increase for people with flat feet or people with rigid arches. The best method to avoid such injury is to wear proper footwear during the activity.

3) Strains: It is an injury commonly associated with muscles and tendons. The result of such damage is mostly due to overuse or overwork of some part of the body. There are three grades of sprain injury, and they are Grade 1 which gets commonly referred to mild injuries; the Grade 2 gets related to moderate injuries and takes a longer time to heal. The Grade 3 is serious of the lot which is severe and takes months to recover.

4) Sprains: It is another injury prevalent in soccer players associated with twisting or tear of the ligaments. They are injuries related to knee, ankles and wrists ligament tears. The symptoms generally related to sprains are swelling, bruising and severe difficulty in walking.

5) Concussions: It is one of the most severe injuries one soccer player can face in his playing days. Though, in injuries such as this, the neurologist gets to treat the patient first as it is related to the brain. The damage to the bone structure takes the back seat, and brain nerves get the preference. In severe cases of concussions, people have developed Alzheimer’s in the future.

These are some of the few injuries found in people involved in body touching sports, and in some injuries like concussions the effect can be long lasting; it is advisable to go for some professional opinion in scenarios such as these.
